Title: The Night That Changed Everything
Author: Debra
Rating: Teen
Summary: Takes place directly after Haunted ended. This is what I thought should have happened after that episode ended. Reela, Sam/Gates, and Brenner/OC.
Author's notes: Brenner's fascination with Neela will fade rather quickly when something happens to turn her life upside down and she needs a friend more than anything else. I am bringing in an original character for him to get involved with.
Five minutes after Neela had watched Ray's van drive away, she was on her couch with tears falling from her eyes. She wished that she'd had the courage to run out the door to stop him before he had left her again. Neela also longed for him to have stayed with her and not let Brenner's sorry ass chase him off.
After a few more mintues, Neela up from the couch and was getting ready to go to her bedroom, when she heard a knock at her door.
'I swear if that is Brenner, I am going to hurt him!' Neela thought to herself as she stormed over to the door.
As she opened it, Neela gasped in shock at the sight of Ray standing there in front of her. Before either one could say a word to each other, he stepped inside the apartment, shut the door and kissed her.
They were locked together in a passionate embrace for a few moments before they had to pull apart long enough to breathe. Neela didn't say a word to him, she just took his hand and led him back to her bedroom. They closed the door behind them.
Two months later
Christmas Eve.
After that night, Neela had woke up in her bed alone and found a note from on her nightstand. He had left for the conference and had said in the letter that he was going to leave for Baton Rouge as soon as the conference was over. They had talked everyday on the phone for the last two months and she was planning on going to Baton Rouge for a week at Valentines Day. She was happy, despite Brenner's numerous attempts to seduce her.
Neela had walked into the ER for a surgical consult when she felt herself get very dizzy. She had been feeling that way for the past month and had a pretty good idea what was going on with her but she had yet to verify her suspicions.
As she walked into the trauma room where Dr. Banfield, Brenner, Gates and Sam were treating a patient. She had started to walk towards the bed when she felt the dizziness she had been feeling get worse and passed out, to the horror of her coworkers.
