| I'm always thinking about possible scenarios of how to have Ray return to the show and I'd like to share one of them with you here. Your feedback and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
Fitting in with the theme of Neela being at a crossroads in her life and due to some patient situations that cause her to reevaluate her life, I thought it would be interesting to have Ray return to County not because of work or even because of Neela but for some other reason. That reason being:
Ray's old bandmate and friend Brett has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. It was caught in the early stages but he has to be hospitalized (at County) to undergo multiple radiation treatments and kemo therapy. Despite their estranged relationship since Ray was kicked out the band a few years prior, Brett calls Ray down in Baton Rouge and after a long coversation the two mend fences and Ray agrees to fly up to Chicago to suport his friend and help him in making decisions concerning his treatment.
It has been a year since Ray stepped foot in Chicago much less County and though he is apprehensive he reminds him self he is coming back to be there for his sick friend and nothing else. This being the case he does not inform any of his former colleagues about his pending return. At first is Ray is able to keep a low profile and go unnoticed by any of the staff choosing to enter the hospital via another entrance other than the ambulance bay. One day though while he is drinking coffee in the cafeteria, Pratt sees him and they briefly commiserate as Ray explains why he is back in Chicago. After offering Ray his sympathies he offers to let the gang know he is there so they can offer their support as well. Ray thanks Pratt but asks him not to let anyone else know he is there as he won't have time to socialize and that he wants to focus on just being a support system for Brett. Though disappointed Pratt agrees to honor Ray's wishes.
Later in the week Ray accidentally bumps into Neela briefly by the elevators. She is coming off one of the elevators as he is stepping on to the other. They briefly make eye contact as Neela looks at Ray; a look of total suprise on her face. Before she can say anything the elevator doors close. Neela is stuck in the OR for most of the day. so she is unable to try and track Ray down. At the end of her shift she walking out into the ambulance bay and sees Pratt talking to his brother who had just dropped off a patient. Neela walks over by Pratt just as his brother drives out in the ambulance. They exchange brief small talk and then Neela mentions about her encounter with Ray earlier that day. Sensing that Prastt is not surprised by her revelation, she asks Pratt if he already knew that Ray was back in town to which he replies yes. She asks him why he didn't tell anybody and he explains the reason why Ray was in Chicago and his wish to remain incognito. Neela is upset that he didn't want her to know he was coming back to town but hides her disappointment from Pratt. As they converse further Neela finds out it is Ray's old bandmate Brett who is sick.
The next day Neela makes a point of checking the patient database to find out which room Brett was staying in. She goes to visit Brett and it is there that she bumps into Ray again.
This is what I have so far. What do you think?

| Subject: SOMETHING TOTALLY TRIVAL YET FUN... Mon Aug 18, 2008 10:15 pm | |
| As I daydream about Shane's/Rat's return in October I began to wonder:
What will Ray be wearing?
Will it be his trademark jeans and t-shirt?
The spoilers mention that he wants to work-out after traveling so maybe he drove up from Baton Rouge for the conference rather than fly.
I'd like to see him in maybe a simple, classic v-neck sweater; maybe in a navy blue or burgandy. He could be wearing a nice pair of dark jeans or even better, khaki or cargo pants which are both stylish yet comfortable.
I think by dressing up a bit while still remaining casual it would help to accentuate Ray's growth and maturity. Put a black leather coat or bomber jacket and you have quite the sexy yet rugged ensemble.
Like I said this is total trivial but still fun to ponder.
Any ideas? Feel free to share.
GO REELA!

| Popping in to leave an interview: Interview: Shane West Too late to stop By JIM SULLIVAN | August 19, 2008 Born in Baton Rouge in 1978, Shane West was raised by punk-rocker parents. His earliest memory of punk is humming along to a Jam song at age three. At 18, he picked up a guitar and moved to Los Angeles. Around the same time, he started auditioning. In 1998, he formed a band called Average Jo, later called Jonny Was; at present, it’s on hiatus. The acting was more successful — he played Evan Rachel Wood’s brother Eli Sammler in the ABC-TV show Once and Again from 1999 to 2002. In 2004, West signed on as the lead actor and executive producer of What We Do Is Secret, a bio-pic of the late-’70s LA punk band the Germs and its bi-sexual, nihilistic, and ultimately suicidal lead singer, Darby Crash. The indie film — titled after a 44-second Germs song — started, ran out of money, stopped, and restarted. Last year it played the LA Film Festival; now it’s finally getting national release. West plays the antagonistic, confrontational Crash, who overdosed, Sid Vicious–like, on December 7, 1980. Further mixing real and reel life, he sang lead with the Germs on tour (they played Axis in 2006), and he’s still a Germ, whenever guitarist Pat Smear is off from his other gig with the Foo Fighters. These days, however, West is best known for quite a different role: On ER, he plays Dr. Ray Barnett, a double-leg amputee during this final season, whose job includes tending to bloody wounds. In What We Do Is Secret, as Crash, he slashes his bare chest, Iggy-like, in concert. And so . . . Topics * Entertainment * • * Music * • * Pop and Rock Music * • * more >> Do you prefer to bleed or be the guy who stanches the bleeding? You mean be a victim or taking care of someone? Being the victim’s a lot more fun when it’s pretend. It was fun to do it in What We Do Is Secret and put on fake gashes. But as to being the caretaker, I’ve always been that with my friends and family. It’s kind of bred in me. It’s hard to think of more-opposite roles. Honestly, ER fits in wonderfully. The first year I started with the Germs, we were trying to raise money and learn songs, I wasn’t on ER, and then ER came along and gave me this opportunity. It helped me out financially, and also career-wise. It helped me get acknowledgment that I can play an adult. It was a blast to join a very successful show. During those three years of hell, when I was trying to put together What We Do Is Secret, eight months out of the year I was able to go to the finely run machine that was ER to relieve my financial worries and help me stay sane. Speaking of sanity: Darby wasn’t really blessed that way, was he? Darby Crash is a legend, a martyr, and very revered in the scene. But as many people that would have possibly died for him, there were just as many that would have been very interested in breaking a beer bottle over his head. He was a leader. He was very disagreeable, but he was also very intelligent and knew what he was talking about. He was well read, and a lot of these people in the scene were not. It wasn’t very difficult for him to win a war of the words or match wits. How do you see his fatal attraction to heroin? I think that it was a legitimate reason to feel numb. He had a very rough life, with suicide rampant in his family. As an adolescent, he ran away from home, started a band in high school, and took acid. It was not a good mixture for the future. And he had his future well planned. [He decided the Germs would last five years, appropriating the concept from David Bowie’s “Five Years.”] If the Germs had blown up in popularity, or had what happened to the Sex Pistols, I think maybe he would’ve lasted six years, but I don’t think it would have lasted very long. His mind had gone, and his voice was leaving him as well. Of all the Los Angeles punk bands of that era, the Germs were the noisiest, most chaotic. I don’t think I was a huge fan when I first listened to the Germs. The voice put me off a little bit, and I think I might have been a tad more interested in X and Black Flag. Then, with revisionism and focusing on this film, there’s not a Germs song I dislike. They weren’t much for melody. I think you find the melody once you get more immersed in the band. There’s well-constructed pop songs in there, believe it or not — “Richie Dagger’s Crime,” “ Lion’s Share.” Pat had that sensibility, and so did Darby. One of my favorites now is “No God,” and it’s the most fun to perform. I’m attached to that group until they want me to stop. http://thephoenix.com/Boston/Music/66550-Interview-Shane-West/ | |

| Subject: What will Ray/Shane look like on the 15.5 episode?? Tue Sep 30, 2008 8:29 pm | |
| I know this is a silly question but I'm just trying to keep this board going and as Shane tends to alter his look quite often I thought it would be interesting to speculate what Ray will look like when he returns for a visit to County? Besides the obvious prosthetics; will he be sporting the longer hair and full goatee that we've seen on Shane lately (which I think is his hottest look by the way) or will he have a shorter haircut and be clean shaven? What will he be wearing? Any ideas? GO REELA! Peace, Sem1973 | |

| Subject: A new movie for Shane West Tue Nov 11, 2008 12:14 am | |
| I was just at the ER board on NBC.com and in the Shane West thread there are pictures and info on a new movie he will be in. It's an adventure taking place in Syria, Turkey, and Egypt. It's an action-adventure romance. He starts filming that in movie in December 2008 and then he will be starting on Kerosene Cowboys in January 2009. With this information, I wonder if he has already taped his remaining episode for ER then? If the show will indeed end in February; I don't see how he could tape for the show after December due to his movie filming schedule. Any ideas; comments? GO REELA! Sem1973 | |

| hmm, i dunno..have they even confirmed that er ends in FEB? there are rumors saying it may be 22 instead of 19...if it becomes 22, they might push ray's return to later but if hes busy, he's probably already doing the new scenes or getting ready to. | |
